An Update Into 2012

Happy New Year, you guys! I know it's late, but I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season as we did!

I've been lagging on the blogging, and then the holidays happened, and well...here I am now. The holidays came and went in a blur, but J and I had an awesome one. One of the things that I didn't get to do was bake our holiday sweets, namely the citrus biscotti. I thought about baking them after the holidays, but that would be breaking tradition. Now, I have a goal of venturing out from baking my usual cookies and cakes. Inspired by Sun, I want to try baking bread and rolls. I've always been intimidated to bake bread, but I won't know unless I try, right?

I need to start walking/running again. With the stress of my job, I've been snacking a lot at my desk. It doesn't help that I stock my drawer with chocolate-covered what-have-you's, potato chips, and anything else that's salty. I'm sure I've gained back the pounds I've lost (and then some) over the summer, so it's back to the drawing board. This has been a long-standing struggle for me, and I can't seem to stick to a work-out regimen. The relatively cold weather here doesn't help, and I can't justify the cost of a gym membership, especially since we're facing an uncertain financial future, and frankly, I don't think I'd go as often as I should.

I just looked over my litte "craft corner", and I just remembered that I have unfinished crochet projects. I think I'm going to try and finish that infinity scarf tonight.

Home For the Weekend

It's about time Blogger came out with an iPhone app. I just downloaded it tonight, and testing it out with this entry. It's pretty simple and user-friendly so far, and I'm hoping it'll come in handy when I want to share something here while I'm on the go.

It's been a challenging work week, and I'm just glad that the weekend is here. This will be our first weekend at home, as we've been traveling back and forth from here to SoCal these last few weeks. We don't have much planned for this weekend, except we have to do some major grocery shopping. Earlier this week, I came home to a funky stale smell, and my instincts led me to the fridge. I carelessly left our freezer drawer ajar when I grabbed an ice pack for my lunch bag that morning. It goes without saying that most of the freezer contents thawed out and melted. I didn't want to take a chance on cross-contamination, so I tossed out the few meat we had, as well as other food stuff, like ice cream and frozen veggies. So right now, the freezer is empty. And clean. Only I would do something like that.

After a whole week, I still have M.ayer Hawthorne's songs stuck in my head. I sing them out loud sometimes, but I don't think Sera likes that because she meows at me.

Ooh, it's late. I'm not used to staying up late anymore. I think we're going hiking tomorrow. Pics to follow.

It's Been Awhile...

J and I just came back from a fun-filled mini vacation in SoCal. We met up with some of our P.lurk and T.witter friends (Sun, Pete, Winnie and Liza) at Disneyland , and basically ate our way through SD with Liza, my college friends and my god sisters. As always, every moment together was spent eating delicious food, sharing stories, and crying from belly laughs. Totally my idea of fun!

So here I am now; back to reality. Work has been good so far, as I've settled into my new position nicely. The only drawback, really, is my commute. I've probably mentioned before that my commute is about 25 miles one way, and on a good day (read: no traffic), I can get to work in about 25-30 minutes. But since my start time is later, my commute time going to work and coming home are during peak commute hours. That means I travel almost 45 minutes to an hour one way. That's a lot of time on the road, isn't it? Mornings aren't so bad, but the evening commute is the worst. I'm usually tired that I just want to get home, put my feet up, and enjoy a glass of wine. Or, make it home on time to catch "The B.ig B.ang Theory" reruns, and I'd be happy with that.

I have to say, though, that Liza made my commute easier today. She introduced me to M.ayer Hawthorne, and gave me copies of his album (Thanks, Liza). Needless to say, I am hooked!! Like, let's-go-see-him-in-concert-nao hooked. I love the Motown vibe to his sound, and it's been awhile since I've enjoyed an album from beginning to end.

Anyway, I'm hoping I'll be able to update a little more often here, I guess if it's even just once a month. We'll see.

Changes

Since I last wrote an entry, there have been a few changes, especially at work. My shift has changed to an earlier one. I have to be at work now by 5:30am on most mornings, which means I have to be up no later than 4am. And I have to be on the road by 4:45am. At first, I liked the idea of this new schedule because I'm home before 3pm, but I'm tired by the time I get home. I try to settle down early for the night and be in bed at a decent hour, but I'm more of a night owl, and I'll be lucky to get more than five hours of sleep. My Sundays have been more low-key these days, and if we go out and do anything, we're home by 6pm. If anything, I've settled into a routine of preparing my lunch, ironing my work clothes the evening before, and the like. I guess that's a good thing.

I also applied to a promotional position at work early this month, which I got! I'm really excited since I've been coveting this spot for a few years now. It'll be a few weeks till I start, and I'll be starting at a later time. Until then, I'm on the early shift.

A few weeks ago, I started a 9-week walking/running program called "Cto5.K". I'm at my heaviest weight *sigh*, and I think this will help me commit to working out, I hope. I haven't been eating healthy, either. It's been three weeks, and I've hit a stumbling block. I just have to keep telling myself that I've accomplished this before. I hope I can do it again...

Friday 5

1. Of the five weekdays, which is the easiest to get through?
Hands down, Friday is the easiest to get through because I have the weekend to look forward to.

2. Which of the five little piggies is the most bizarrely characterized?
The piggy who had roast beef. It's rather comical to picture that.

3. Of fire, earth, metal, water, and wood, from which do you draw your power?
I'd would probably have to say water. I can be rather calm and fluid, or mad and rushed.

4. Haribo Gummy Bears come in five flavors: pineapple (white), strawberry (green), raspberry (red), lemon (yellow) and orange (orange). Which is your favorite?
It's hard to pick a favorite, but I'll say pineapple.

5. Which of the five basic tastes (sweetness, sourness, bitterness, saltiness, and savoriness) best describes your personality?
I'm a little of everything.
